That time we didn’t have enough $ for the cab in Brazil…

Hi friends and happy Sunday!  I hope y’all had an awesome weekend, I know I did 🙂

I thought I would switch things up a bit this Sunday and tell you a story about an incident that we had when we went to Brazil.

We were in Brazil because our friends, Phil & Iluska (“Philuska”) were getting married in Iluska’s hometown of Joao Pessoa.  Naturally, since it was so far away, we decided to make an entire vacation out of it (as did everyone else who was traveling from the states).

Anyway, it was one of those weeks where my liver probably wanted to pack up and leave my body, we drank THAT much.  It was an amazing trip with amazing people who all had the same goal: get as drunk as possible!  Just to give you a frame of reference, here are some pictures from the trip:

The local men all wore tiny bathing suits so of course, some of the boys thought they too would wear them (I think this was an alcohol-infused decision, but that’s just me) — SEXY!  We called them the “Bulge Brigade” ha!ImageThis is pretty much how it was all day err day:

ImageI think there were drinks in hand for every picture that was taken, Exhibit A…

Pretty much everywhere we went turned into a dance party of some sort and the actual wedding was no different.

ImageAt the end of the trip, we obviously had to take a taxi to the airport.  Well, it’s about a 2 hour drive or so from where we were staying.  Before departing the hotel, it was our understanding that the price of the cab would be fixed to (I think) what was the equivalent of about 70-80 US Dollars.

First of all, the actual ride to the airport was completely terrifying!  There was absolutely nothing in between the beach town and the airport, just dirt roads.  On top of that, the “roads” were questionable.  To make it worse, the car we were riding in kept breaking down.  I had to take a Xanax about 20 minutes into the ride because I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

We finally made it to the airport (thank GOD!) and the taxi driver tells us in Portuguese that the fare was about $20 more than what we had left.  No problem, I’ll just go inside and pull out more cash, right?  WRONG.  For some reason, the ATM’s would not allow me to pull out any cash.

The biggest problem was that we didn’t speak the same language as the taxi driver so we couldn’t even really try to negotiate with him.

Before we even got to Brazil, Phil told us that liquor there is extremely expensive and to bring a bunch from the states as an effort to save some dough.  We actually ended up buying way more than we could drink (SHOCKING, I know) so we had a leftover bottle of Jack Daniels.  Suddenly, my husband remembered this fact and offered up the liquor bottle to the cabby in lieu of the cash that we were short on.  And guess what?!?!?!  It worked!  After we gave him the bottle, the driver gave us a thumbs up and left, ha!!!

Thanks for reading!

Any stories from when you were in another country?

-I guess this is not surprising but I have PLENTY!
